Watch video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZOJJ4sdtZDI

Show Notes:

Civil Air Patrol ( National website: https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com ):

"CAP owns the largest fleet of single-engine piston aircraft in the nation, primarily Cessna 172s and 182s, and CAP pilots are able to fly those planes to perform CAP missions in service to their local communities. CAP pilots fly reconnaissance missions for homeland security, search and rescue, disaster relief,... "

CAP has three primary missions:

  • Aerospace Education
  • Cadet Training
  • Emergency Services
And two additional secondary missions:

CAP Facts:

"The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF).[3] CAP is a volunteer organization with an aviation-minded membership that includes people from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and occupations. It performs three congressionally assigned key missions: emergency services, which includes search and rescue (by air and ground) and disaster relief operations; aerospace education for youth and the general public; and cadet programs for teenage youth. In addition, CAP has recently been tasked with homeland securityand courier service missions."

"The Civil Air Patrol was conceived in the late 1930s by aviation advocate Gill Robb Wilson, who foresaw general aviation's potential to supplement America's military operations. With the help of New York Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia, in his capacity as then-Director of the Office of Civilian Defense, CAP was created with Administrative Order 9, signed by LaGuardia on 1 December 1941 and published 8 December 1941."

"Civil Air Patrol has five congressionally mandated missions:[16]

  1. To provide an organization to encourage and aid citizens of the United States in contributing their efforts, services, and resources in developing aviation and in maintaining air supremacy; and encourage and develop by example the voluntary contribution of private citizens to the public welfare.
  2. To provide aviation education and training especially to its senior and cadet members.
  3. To encourage and foster civil aviation in local communities.
  4. To provide an organization of private citizens with adequate facilities to assist in meeting local and national emergencies.
  5. To assist the Department of the Air Force in fulfilling its non-combat programs and missions.

The organization condenses these mandates into three core missions, which Civil Air Patrol was chartered with by Congress in 1946: aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services.[17][18]"

I am a volunteer for CAP Composite Squadron 59.

* Speeds: 100 Mbps to 20 Gbps

* Numerous small antennas

* 1st Phones: Samsung 1st 1/2 of 2019, Apple 2020

* 60-120 times lower latency, usually < 1 millisecond

* Peak speed ~ 20 x 4G speeds

* Faster for non-mobile connections than mobile connections

* Uses:

  • Smart cities
  • Smart grids
  • Smart home devices
  • Vehicle-to-vehicle communications
  • Traffic signal status & control
  • Wearable tech
  • "Internet Of Things" {IoT}
  • Remote connected sensors such as air quality, weather, pressure, open parking spaces, & way more.
  • "Tele-medicine" applications

* Security concerns because of how many devices will be networked and super-fast speeds at which cyber-attacks will be able to propagate.

• ITU ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITU ) Standards -15 & -16 will represent Phase I & Phase II rollouts of 5G standards. -15 (Phase I) is due to be finalized in April of 2019. -16 (Phase II) is due for finalization in April of 2020.

• I have not as-yet been able to locate specification standard transmitter power levels for 5G RF transmitters. I suspect that's because the ITU standards are not finalized yet.

• It would appear that mobile carriers are labeling their own proprietary technologies as "5G" in some cases, but that these early "5G" are not necessarily going to be representing "standardized" 5G network technologies. This sounds like a nightmare for governmental regulating entities to monitor and control. AT&T has in the past couple of days (as of 01/08/2019) been a notorious example, simply rolling out a software update to existing 4G phones that changes the network icon to show as 5G-E with NO change in the abilities of their phones or their networks.

MWGIC EP-00085: 5G Fears - Are They True?

MWGIC EP-00085: 5G Fears - Are They True? Inspired by a Facebook post from a prior co-worker and friend of mine, MWGIC will begin a series of episodes looking into what 5G is, what the fears about 5G are, and then digging deeper into each aspect of the subject. This episode lays the foundation for the series.

Claims About 5G RF Emissions:

As you can see, there are some pretty wild claims out there. This episode will set the stage for a series of investigative episodes on these topics.

This series was inspired by a Facebook post relayed by one of my prior co-workers, Scott P. Scott was asking what I thought about the subject.

Since the subject is relatively deep, I felt it was worth a series of episodes.

MWGIC EP-00084: Goodbye 2018 And Happy New Year 2019 - Dan's Geek & Tech Predictions

Watch Video On YouTube:
https://youtu.be/3kaBKICk1-s

Show Notes:

Geek Goodbyes In 2018:

Dan's Geek & Tech Predictions For 2019:

  • Multiple companies will launch Low-Earth-Orbit broadband internet satellites by the end of the year, and SpaceX will lead. It will be the beginning of an internet revolution as big as the change from dial-up to broadband,  resulting in ubiquitous cheap global gigabit internet access within ten years.
  • Mobile 5G technology will begin rolling out in earnest, and by the end of the year large metro markets will have some coverage - and even a few phones that can use it.
  • Cable internet provider companies will be talking about major rate reductions and trying to sugar-coat crappy customer service by the end of the year due to the above two stories. The level of dispicableness they have maintained for so long will see people eagerly awaiting leaving them for satellite and mobile competitors - but the competing networks will need about two additional years to really begin replacing cable internet in earnest.
  • Carte-blanche virtual content marketplaces will begin and start proliferating.
  • Empty big-box store buildings will become data center assets due to available power drops, large flat roofs ideal for solar power and cooling plant, ample room in empty garden centers for emergency generators, pre-existing loading docks, ample parking space for technicians and installers, and massive available floor space, and their location in areas with a low cost-of-living and low-cost real estate. Look to see dead Sears, Kmart, and Walmart stores filling up with co-location cages, servers, routers, fiber optics, and both mobile and satellite internet links.
  • Someone in the Marvel Universe will fry Thanos, grab the Infinity Glove, and restore half the universe's Marvel characters. Probably Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy by a freak accident aided by the Norse God of sheer Dumb Luck.
  • Processor power will begin increasing in earnest again toward the end of the year as stacked 10nm chips are combined with new materials that run cooler than existing silicon come on market.

Happy New Year, and welcome 2019!

MWGIC EP-00083: Merry Christmas And Happy New Year From Midwestern Geek In Cali!

Show Notes:

Christmas Comet 46P On Space.com:

https://www.space.com/42821-green-christmas-comet-46p-science.html

The Electric Elf:

'Twas the night before Christmas,
And all through the house,
The parents were scrambling,
Because the twinkle lights were out!

'Twas the night before Christmas and no one slept a wink,
Where are those spare Christmas bulbs,
Oh please help me think,
Before I call a Christmas shrink!

'Twas the night before Christmas and I keeled over in bed,
As my wife and I looked at the clock in dread,
I set the alarm for six when the clock said four thirty,
So don't blame Mrs. Claus if Santa is surly!

The bells just rang without moving the sleigh,
Oh, my goodness, it's Christmas Day!

I hopped in my suit and a candle I lit,
I ran down the stairs and I stared like a twit,
For just at the tree was an incredible sight,
There was a Neon Elf with a spare Christmas light!

Yes, the stockings were twinkling,
The tree was ablaze with blinking,
The windows were glowing,
Outside it was even now snowing!

I shook and I sputtered,
I think I must have quite stuttered,
As I thanked him and all his ilk,
I even handed over Santa's left over cookies and milk!

Well, he winked,
I swear his eyes blinked,
And quicker than you could say Blitzen,
Up the chimney that Electric Elf was splittin',
A whoosh I heard and I saw a cloud of soot,
The last thing to go was a lighted Kid Nike foot!

Then I heard giggles from the top of the stairs,
I hurried and emptied my bag of merchants' wares,
The tinsel tree was glowing just bright as could be,
Lit by the now fixed cloured light rotisserie,
And down the stairs came my little kids,
When they saw all the lights they quite flipped their lids!

Soon Mrs. Santa arrived and all was Christmas glee,
As little Whosits tore paper up under the tree,
And that's when I thanked my lucky stars,
Mrs. Santa's from Venus,
But that Electric Elf left toy light up cars!

Video - MWGIC EP-00077: Wickerd Farms Haunted Pumpkin Patch

Watch video - and please subscribe - on YouTube:

Show Notes:

Charles McKee and I paid an evening visit to Wickerd Farms' haunted pumpkin patch today, and I got in a brief interview with Jack Wickerd. This is a lot of fun for the little ones in a beautiful Southern California setting. Enjoy!

http://www.wickerdfarm.com/

FYI...exclusive to the blog...the ending to the video was entirely accidental. I stumbled on a rock that was very round and almost rolled my ankle. My finger hit the stop button, and there you go. Perfect "Blair witch" ending to our little Halloween video.
